Introduction to Solid-State Physics (EE/MT/PEP503)

Course Instructor
Knut Stamnes

Description of simple physical models which account for electrical conductivity and thermal properties of solids. Cover basic crystal lattice structures, X-ray diffraction, and dispersion curves for phonons and electrons in reciprocal space. Explore energy bands, Fermi surfaces, metals, insulators, semiconductors, superconductivity, and ferromagnetism. Prerequisites: PEP242, PEP331.

Although it was extremely challenging, the personal reward and satisfaction by successfully completing such a rigorous program gives a true sense of professional accomplishment."
