Dr. Adriana Compagnoni works on Cybersecurity, and she is a member of the Laboratory for Secure Systems at Stevens. Her research interest focuses on the application and development of innovative programming language techniques to address security, access control, privacy, and confidentiality issues. Her main goal is to further the knowledge of the production of high-quality software systems, either by constructing proved-correct software, designing calculi for the modeling of complex software systems, or studying meta-theoretical results relevant to the production of such software. With her group, she has done pioneering work on information flow analysis for low level programming languages designing systems that can detect the leaking of confidential information into public channels.  She also studied concurrent systems for global computing and secure sessions in concurrent communications. She is now working with Professor Andrew Appel (Princeton University) on the construction of a proved-correct Java compiler, making Java and C legacy code more secure, providing correctness guarantees for safety critical components, and building experience on constructing more secure compilers. Dr.  Compagnoni joined the Computer Science Department at Stevens as an Assistant Professor in January 1999, and she was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2004. In February 1995, she obtained her doctorate in Mathematics and Computer Science at Nijmegen University in the Netherlands. She was a postdoctoral associate at the Computer Laboratory at Cambridge University, U.K., with Turing Award Winner Prof. Robin Milner from February 1995 until April 1997. She was also a postdoc at the Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science (LFCS) in the Computer Science Department at the University of Edinburgh with Prof. Michael Fourman. In 2001 Compagnoni was honored with a National Science Foundation Early Career Award, in recognition of her outstanding work as a young researcher.
